emerging media
The exposure of new media makes me want to learn more! I'm scared to graduate because in 10 years, or even 5, everything will be different. New media is changing so quickly that I feel that as soon as I learn a version of adobe 2.0, version 7.0 is creeping up. Like many professional fields, those in the media industry should attend continuing education courses to keep up with the constant changing of the media.
video
I am creating a video on my website! Since my website is devoted to travel, I am creating a video tutorial on how to set up a tent. I go camping pretty often with my boyfriend and he usually sets up the tent for us, so I got him to set up a tent while i filmed it.
current.tv
Writers are still on strike! This current.com/tv video is a viewer-created pod that is interesting because it displays news in a new way! Check it out!
Electronic Frontier Foundation
digitized expression does make traditional notions of copyright outmoded and irrelevant. For the emerging media to be regulated, new laws should be passed if traditional notions need to be carried over.
Big World
podcasting can ifluence negative effects of media concentration. When media convergence emerges, it creates competition for existing media. You can get news in many more forms now, including podcasts. Staples for the news, like television and radio, are now having to compete with podcasts and the internet.

The EPIC movies describe how technology affects the future of media. Technology will continue to affect the media. Broadcast news competes with the many other news sources available now. Instead of watching a 30 minute or an hour broadcast news show, you can sign in to your "my yahoo" account and look at only the news that you are interested in.

Podcast

I found this podcast on iTunes and thought I would share it with my blog readers (ie my sister, my teacher for all intents and purposes and whoever else may accidentally stumble upon this blog). It's a podcast from different authors discussing their recent books. It's called "Meet the Author." I enjoyed it and I hope you do too.

...On ReMediation

Every form of media is constantly being replaced with another.
Had a journal? Now you have a blog. Remember waiting to see how your pictures came out? Now we can view them on the camera. Can you think of anything that can't be uploaded to your ipod?
New forms of "revolutionary" media these days aren't usually "brand new," but are better forms of the media we already had. We can't go back. This video about the "i-vinyl" demonstrates this very well, I think.

Websites: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
WEBSITE REVIEW

The bad (the ugly): To me, ugly IS bad! Besides the obvious American Press website, for its extreme clutter, Sulphur's newspaper isn't terribly good. It's not very visually appealing, which is sometimes a consolation for not-so-good content. In a town like Sulphur, high school sports is the idea of "content."
Based on content, visual appeal, and navigability
The good: John Edwards' campaign site. It has a rollover and drop down menu bar, it's red, white, and blue, of course, and it doesn't have too much information on the home page. It's easily navigable and it's clear on how to get the information you want. Not sure who to vote for? Take this select a candidate quiz .
Here's a few, more relevant, websites that I like:

Travel Website Coming Soon!

I am working on a new website about my travels and places I want to go! I will post pictures that I have taken and links to websites that are helpful if you are traveling to a new place. I thought about calling it "Jess's travels" or "Through Jessica's lens." I want to post pictures and blog about details of the pictures. I like greens and yellows, so those colors will definately be in there. I also thought about having an old camera theme, with polaroid-type pictures and maybe "typewriter" font. For the flash animation, I want there to be a camera flash, with different pictures. For the podcast, I will have camera sounds and will interview a professional photographer about tips for the average person to take pictures. For the video, I will either expound on the podcast, or I will videotape a "trip" somewhere in Louisiana and interview people that like to travel. I may also interview people about their favorite vacation stories.
I hope to get this site ready in a flash!

File Sharing
File sharing is something that we can't go back on. I still buy cd's and so do many other people. According to the Harvard Gazette, file sharing actually boosts record sales. If I'm downloading a song I have never heard, sometimes it's so that I can preview what will be on the cd. I don't feel that there is any solution because it obviously cannot be regulated.

The Voodoo Music Festival is in New Orleans on the weekend of Oct. 26-28. To find reviews of different artists, I searched for blogs about Voodoo Fest. This blog also has a link to the official Voodoo Fest website where you can buy tickets and view the complete lineup and schedule.
The Trendspotter's Guide to New Communications
Near-Frictionless Markets:
Accurate price information limits companies from overpricing and will help curb inflation. This is very good for consumers and enhances the competition between employees.
Manufacturers as Service Prividers:
Products will be tailored to their customers which will lead to more customer satisfaction. Manufacturers will have more responsibility to produce quality products.
The Proliferation of Ideas:
News and information will travel to remote countries creating new markets and new consumers. The economies of small countries will get better.
